How to Prepare for your Tantric Massage

Spending some time preparing for our tantric massage session is a great way to approach a session with me. Unlike conventional massage, tantric bodywork emphasizes connection, awareness, and the flow of energy throughout the body. Taking time to prepare properly can help you feel more relaxed, present, and open to the experience. It honours an experience which is out of this world and begins to introduce you to the power and beauty of ritual.

In our pre-booking chat, I will have asked you why you have chosen a tantric massage over another kind of service. This is an important question and a good one to reflect on before we meet. Whether you’re seeking relaxation, emotional release, deeper self-awareness, intimacy, healing of a specific issue or simply curiosity, having a clear intention helps guide and focus your experience. This doesn’t need to be rigid or overly specific—just a gentle awareness of what you hope to gain from our time together and the time you have given to you.

Physical preparation is also important. Try to avoid heavy meals, alcohol, or substances for several hours or days beforehand, as these can dull your sensitivity and awareness. Instead, drink plenty of water and only eat something light if needed on the day of our appointment. Taking a warm shower before your session is not only courteous but also helps you feel fresh, relaxed, and more comfortable in your body. You will be offered one when you arrive.

You want to arrive feeling at ease so please give yourself plenty of extra time to get to your appointment so you’re not carrying stress or anxiety into the space.

Equally essential is emotional and mental readiness. Tantric massage can sometimes bring up unexpected feelings as it encourages deep relaxation and awareness. Approach the session with openness rather than expectation. Let go of the need to control the outcome and allow yourself to simply experience whatever arises.

Communication is key. Before the session begins, we'll have a conversation about boundaries, any emotional or physical issues you are bringing, clarifying desires and establishing consent. Be honest and clear—this is your experience, and I want you to feel safe and respected. Don’t hesitate to ask questions if you’re unsure about any aspect of the process.

Breathwork plays a central role in tantric practices, so it can help to familiarize yourself with slow, mindful breathing beforehand. Even a few minutes of deep breathing before your session can calm your nervous system and make it easier to stay present during the massage. Focus on long, steady inhales and exhales, allowing your body to soften with each breath.

It's also helpful to release expectations shaped by media or misconceptions. Tantric massage is not about performance or achieving a specific result; it’s about awareness, connection, and presence. Letting go of preconceived ideas allows you to engage more authentically with the experience.

Aftercare is another aspect to consider. Plan for some quiet time following your session if possible. You may feel deeply relaxed, introspective, or emotionally open. Avoid jumping straight into stressful activities if possible and stay hydrated. If you have to go back to work, have a long drive or any other stressful situation ahead of you, please find some way to come back down to earth. Having a post-massage shower here can help bring you back and you can always stop for a quick coffee or a bite to eat to ground you.

Ultimately, preparing for a tantric massage session is about creating the best possible conditions you can for relaxation and self-awareness. By approaching it with intention, openness, and curious respect for the instinct and intuition that has led you to explore tantra, you can have a profoundly relaxing, uniquely blissful and mind and soul opening experience and I look forward to guiding you through that experience.
